Beryl Flynn, nee Wheals   (1958-63)

Hi everyone,

Both myself and my sister Gloria, who also attended WCGS, left in 1963 because our parents moved to Hertfordshire. I moved back to London in ’64 because my parents then moved up North.  I became a beautician with Elizabeth Arden.  I married Brian Flynn, another WCGS. pupil in March 1966 (yes, we married at only 19).  I am sure many of you will remember him.  I remained working for Elizabeth Arden until the birth of our first child in 1971, a son who we named Brian.  In 1973 we had a daughter Dawn and six weeks after her birth we relocated to Keynsham (spelt K  E  Y  N  S  H  A  M --- Radio Luxembourg --- Horace Bachelor --- remember?) just a couple of miles from Bath.  I then stayed home to look after children and never did go back to a career.

Children went off to Uni., Brian (son) to Cardiff and Dawn up to Nottingham.  Brian (husband) and myself then spent quality time together trout fishing and painting.  It was during Dawn's final year at Uni. that sadly and very suddenly her dad died aged only 48.  There followed a very traumatic couple of years for us all.  However Dawn went back to Uni. and got her degree then backpacked around the world with a fellow student, Stuart, whom she married last year.  She now teaches English at a College in Nottingham where she lives. Brian (son) became a journalist and married his wife Alison in 1997.

I have many friends in Keynsham and am in a local pub quiz team (where we do surprisingly well I must say).  I travel a lot around Europe (for enjoyment not work), went to Jamaica two years ago and Dominica year before that.  Would like to buy a home in The Canaries, where it is always warm, I do like the sun.  My son is about to take up the post of New York Correspondent for a national daily newspaper (Oct.20th) so I am looking forward to spending Christmas and New Year there.  And next year my daughter and myself are hoping to travel around China.  There is a lot to be seen and done still out there and I am going for it.

Best regards to you all.

Beryl Flynn (nee Wheals)
