Dr. Brian Taylor (1952-55)
I was at WCGS
from 1952-1955; passing the 11-plus at 10 from St Andrew's C of E school.
In 1955, I left to go to Mill Hill School under the old "Middlesex Scheme".
Nevertheless, I have always felt that the grounding I got at WCGS stood me in
great stead. I also remember Doc Roberts with fondness as a good and fair
Headmaster.
From Mill Hill, after three years working at the Wellcome Laboratories of
Tropical Medicine, I took the degree of Bachelor of Technology in Applied
Biology at the then Brunel College. It became a University the week we did
our finals. I then did PhD research at Brunel - being the first internal
postgraduate to get a PhD in Biology.
Now semi-retired, I am a Fellow of the Institute of Biology and a Fellow of the
Royal Entomological Society.
My sister, Glenys Tyler, nee Taylor, also went to WCGS, from 1959-64, I think.
