The Unveiling of the Memorial Board

This took place on Thursday 17th July, 1997 in the Harlesden Public Library, near Craven Park and Manor Park Road.

Thirty or so people arrived for the occasion, among whom were relatives of two of those named on the Board.  Doris Bone, nee Frostick, who was married to Roy Chenery and Brian Gurden, younger brother of Leslie Gurden.

Chairman (Keith Gladden) called for a minute's silence to be observed after which, Brian Gurden gave a speech recalling his memories of the original ceremony he attended as a nine year old.  Then, many families, friends and local dignitaries had gathered to witness the unveiling of the Board by the Headmaster Dr. Roberts and the previous head Mr. Wallis.

Brian Gurden furthered reminded those present of the following years when, on Armistice Day during Assembly two minutes silence was kept followed by the reading of the Names on the Board and the placing of a poppy wreath beneath the Memorial.

It is the intention of the Old Uffs Committee that a wreath be laid at the Library on Remembrance Day this year and following years.
